Press Releases FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 8, 2008 Press Contact: Jordon M. Greene - jordon@bryangreene08.com For over a year now, I have attempted to give the people of North Carolina's 10th Congressional District another choice on election day. A candidate who stands up for freedom, the rights of the people and the Constitution of these United States of America as an Independent candidate for US Congress (I-NC-10). I believe that the response to the message of limited government, ignored by Democrats and abandoned by most Republicans (with the exception of a few, namely Ron Paul and BJ Lawson), has resounded well with the people. I have been pleased with the people's support and desire for constitutional and principled representation through supporting my campaign. Yet, it is my sore displeasure to announce that as of Monday, September 8, 2008, I am withdrawing my candidacy for the US Congress. My campaign has come to an end due to the unconstitutional, unequal and discriminatory ballot access laws that have plagued true political progress and the protection of individual liberties in North Carolina since 1901. As many of you know, the state requires unaffiliated/independent candidates to gather signatures on top of paying the filing fee simply to have the candidates name printed on the ballot. In my case that was 16,457 signatures simply for me, as a qualified voter and citizen of North Carolina, to have my name printed on the election ballot and more importantly for the people to have the freedom to choose from another candidate on Election Day. Yet, since we were unable to overcome this huge requirement many voters of North Carolina's 10th District, once again will be deprived of their right to vote their conscious and either be forced to vote for, as the phrase goes, "the lesser of two evils," not vote at all or write-in a candidate (which the state will not count). This is unacceptable, and just as the black community were deprived of equality for so long and then fought through peaceful means to gain their inherent equality recognized by law, we must demand that those who represent us, or who wish to represent us, must support and fight for a free and equal ballot and end discrimination based on citizen's political affiliation. It does not matter if we agree with their affiliation or not, what matters is that we live in a country built on the principles of freedom. That to maintain freedom we must not allow our fears or perceptions of others to violate their inalienable rights, as do these ballot access laws in North Carolina and around the nation. We must refuse to elect, or re-elect, candidates for State or Federal office who do not support a free and equal ballot. We must make this an issue in North Carolina, then the nation. I strongly recommend that each and every one of you visit the web site of the North Carolinians for Free and Proper Elections PAC (NCFPE-PAC) at www.NCFPE.com to learn more about the ballot problem, candidates that support free and equal elections and what you can do to help free the NC ballot. I also recommend visiting the web site of the North Carolina Open Elections Coalition at www.NCOpenElections.org. I would like to thank every one of you for your gracious prayers and support of my candidacy, but more importantly the message of freedom, limited government and adherence to the US Constitution. This is not the end however, although I can no longer run for the US Congress in 2008, I will continue to fight through our lawsuit against the State to declare the law, which placed undue burden on unaffiliated/independent candidates and discriminates against the voter based on political affiliation, as unconstitutional and work to bring down these restrictions. I will also do my part in working with our current elected officials and candidates to push for free and equal elections through legislation in the NC General Assembly. ### Bryan Greene 2008 CCC - 2206 Planters Way - Lenoir, NC 28645 - 828-729-4509 Paid for and authorized by Bryan Greene 2008 Congressional Campaign Committee August 11, 2008 - Ballot Access Case Filed October 27, 2007 - Spruce Pine Mayor Advocates Unconstitutional Ballot Access Restrictions
